New Hampshire Primary Security Breach, on tape. It’s pretty bad.

with 3 comments

So, a recent video published by election watchdog group blackboxvoting.org illustrates the security with which the primary ballots were kept before counting. As I watched this it became clear to me that my comic book collection is better guarded than this. Not only do they ‘interview’ (more like confront) the NH Secretary of State (who looks like a deer in headlights the entire time) but they test a spare ‘seal’ that is used to make sure the ballots aren’t tampered with. I’ll tell you, we’re better off keeping the ballots in any random ten year old’s Trapper Keeper. (Do they even use those anymore? I have stock in Lisa Frank).

‘No Child Left Behind creates schools obsessed with test preparation’

My dog could have told you this 4 years ago.

I’m working on a few plans to fix this though, I’ll run them by all of you on here.

Group Discussion: Why does citizenship matter?

with 4 comments

Does it even matter?

Citizenship describes a way of life in which people pursue shared goals for society, recognize limits to government powers and participate in political processes; where people are entitled to pursue economic well-being and loyalty and solidarity among people is nurtured. A collective sense of citizenship takes account of diversity and protects the legal and human rights of each person especially members of minority groups. As democratic societies evolve, so does their understanding of citizenship.

Citizenship is the legal status of belonging to a state, but equally important citizenship also is about how we live together in our communities and the larger society. Read the rest of this entry »

Review: In The Name of the King, or “Jason Statham Got to Get Paid, Son.” (Or more “Boll Crap”)

'So Claire, have you made anything since Meet Joe Black?'

Newer Update: The numbers are in, ITNOTK:ADST (That’s awesome. That’s like 10 words in the title) made 3 mil opening weekend, and Fox finally admits how bad of a director Uwe Boll is. Now, now, I can rest in peace.

Update: /Film is reporting that In the Name of the King opened up with $950k on opening day, and is headed for a $2.1m opening weekend.

There are some people which are far more courageous than I, and one of those is our very own intrepid J-RAD, who braved his way the theatre to slog through Uwe Boll’s latest star-studded craptravaganza, In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Seige Tale. Here it goes:

With critical acclaims going to comedies like “Juno” and “Superbad,” I’d like to highlight another film that is easily this year’s unexpected comedy breakthrough: “In The Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale.” Unfortunately for director Uwe Boll, it’s supposed to be an Action/Adventure/Fantasy flick — herein lies the humor. The film’s protagonist (who is a farmer) is unimaginatively named Farmer; the outright theft of shots from the Lord of the Rings trilogy begs one to wonder if Uwe Boll actually storyboarded anything, or if he just referred to one seriously worn-out copy of Jackson’s opus; and the film’s dialogue seems to have been randomly typed by a group of one-armed kinkajous with Tourette’s Syndrome that had been sniffing drain cleaner.

But I digress.

Stuff you should watch: Burn Notice (USA)

Feel the Burn...

Update: Season Two and the entire First season has been put online for your very own viewing pleasure. Check it out here.

I really didn’t pay it much heed last summer when it premiered, but it’s like an iPod; one of those things that nags at you until you finally jump in with the rest of the crowd, but when you’re in, it’s awesome. That’s how USA’s summer series Burn Notice rolls.

Review: National Treasure 2: Nicholas Cage Still Refuses to Get His Hair Cut

with 4 comments

Wow, it really is from IKEA.
Dang, it IS by IKEA. The Swedes! The SWEDES!

Does Nic Cage even act anymore? I remember when he was always all, Oscar hopeful and stuff… but now he seems content to simply solve Encyclopedia Brownian-type mysteries and look a lot like Neil Diamond (Reference). However, all kidding aside, he returns to us in the hugely successful sequel to the hugely successful National Treasure. This time involving, a secretive Book of Secrets.

The Dark Knight – Theatrical Trailer

Dark Knight

Holy Hotness Batman! It’s been eons in the waiting, and now, now I have relief. The newest Batman trailer is here complete with Jokers and explosions aplenty. I caught a bootleg on the nets a few days ago, but man, nothing compares to the glory of HD.

Click your pointy ears over in this direction.
